Dear Constituents

On November 19th, residents and property owners of Area L expressed their confidence in me by electing me for a second term as their representative on the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors. As the Director for Area L it will be my responsibility to communi- cate the wishes of area residents to the CRD Board of Directors on the delivery of local and regional services including land use planning, building inspections, waste management, bylaw enforcement, library, recreation, fire protection and invasive plant management.

I have enjoyed working in this position for the past three years and look forward to continuing this work for a second term.

During the campaign I committed to:

  • Work with and support local community groups
  • Work to increase recycling and promote environmentally responsible solid waste management practices
  • Support land development that is consistent with community wishes
  • Support tourism activities that reflect the character and history of the area
  • Encourage economic development approaches that emphasize self-sufficiency and long term sustainability
  • Lobby the provincial government for additional revenue streams
  • Lobby for more provincial support for fire departments and other emergency services
  • Encourage community planning and preparedness for wildfire emergencies

I look forward to your continued support as I work to achieve these objectives.

Bruce Rattray

Regulatory Initiatives

It is important to be informed and to provide your comments on new or revised regulatory bylaws that are being considered by the CRD. Bylaws currently under consideration include:

Development Applications

The CRD routinely considers amendments to Official Community Plans, rezoning applications, and changes in Agricultural Land Reserve status. OCP amendments and rezoning applications provide an opportunity for public input through the public hearing process. It is important to participate in this process to ensure that your interests are understood when decisions are being made. Details of applications under consideration are posted in the Development section of the website.

Shirley and I were entertained for half on hour recently by a Barred Owl. The owl sat on top of the bird feeder post then flew to the bird bath and then into a tree next to the house. During the course of his visit he managed to scoop up and swallow at least two meadow voles that were careless enough to leave the protection of the snow banks.
