Dear Constituents

On November 15th, 2008, Area "L" residents and property owners elected me as their representative on the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors.

During the election campaign I committed to:

  • Enhance communications with area residents and property owners to ensure that they are aware of proposals that affect them and have a fair opportunity to contribute to the decision making process;
  • Participate in regional district initiatives to promote the long-term sustainability of the regional economy;
  • Encourage policies and programs that will help to reduce the region's contribution to climate change and develop strategies to address future climate change impacts;
  • Support waste management practices that are economically and environmentally appropriate;
  • Support land use planning decisions which ensure that development pressures do not over-ride concerns for the environmental and cultural values of the area;
  • Seek means to improve the fairness of property tax structures to ensure that long term residents are not penalized as a result of development pressures on property values;

It is my hope that this website will be a useful tool in addressing the first of these commitments as well as informing my constituents of actions being taken to address the other commitments. To be effective though, the communication must be two-way. Please let me know what you think about this website and the issues raised in it.

Regulatory Initiatives

It is important to be informed and to provide your comments on new or revised regulatory bylaws that are being considered by the CRD. Bylaws currently under consideration include:

Development Applications

The CRD routinely considers amendments to Official Community Plans, rezoning applications, and changes in Agricultural Land Reserve status. OCP amendments and rezoning applications provide an opportunity for public input through the public hearing process. It is important to participate in this process to ensure that your interests are understood when decisions are being made. Details of applications under consideration are posted in the Development section of the website.

Picture of the Week

Managed to get a bit of time in the workshop recently and produced a late, but nevertheless appreciated, birthday present for Shirley. Now she has to find a place to put it in the house which is already filled with little round wooden things.
