Dear Constituents
On November 15th, 2008, Area "L" residents and property owners elected me as their representative on the
Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors.
During the election campaign I committed to:
- Enhance communications with area residents and property owners to ensure that they are aware of
proposals that affect them and have a fair opportunity to contribute to the decision making process;
- Participate in regional district initiatives to promote the long-term sustainability of the regional
economy;
- Encourage policies and programs that will help to reduce the region's contribution to climate change and
develop strategies to address future climate change impacts;
- Support waste management practices that are economically and environmentally appropriate;
- Support land use planning decisions which ensure that development pressures do not over-ride concerns
for the environmental and cultural values of the area;
- Seek means to improve the fairness of property tax structures to ensure that long term residents are not
penalized as a result of development pressures on property values;
It is my hope that this website will be a useful tool in addressing the first of these commitments as well
as informing my constituents of actions being taken to address the other commitments. To be effective
though, the communication must be two-way. Please let me know what you think about this website and the
issues raised in it.

What's New
The easiest way to keep up to date on CRD activities affecting the Area "L" residents and
property owners is to read the newsletter that I publish every couple of weeks. Please
contact me to be included on the mailing list.
Here's what we are working on just now:
- Public Hearing at Interlakes Community Hall on August 31, 2010 - There will be a public hearing held in the Interlakes Community Hall at 7:00 pm on August 31, 2010 for property described as Part of Lot 2, District Lots 1313, 1314, 1459 and 1460, Lillooet District, Plan EPP5672, Except Plan EPS174, and located on Highway 24 near Lac Des Roches and Muddy Lake. For more information see the CRD website or click here.
- Public information meeting at Interlakes Community Hall on September 1, 2010 - There will be a public meeting at the Interlakes Community Hall at 7:00 pm on September 1, 2010 to provide information about a proposed development on Highway 24 at Webb Lake. This meeting is being organized by the project proponents not the CRD. It is intended to provide details of the project to local residents before the formal application is submitted to the CRD. It is understood that the property is currently zoned Rural Residential 1 (minimum 10 ac lots) and the proponents wish to re-zone it to Rural Residential 2 (minimum 5 acre lots). This would allow development of approximately 31 lots. Additional information will be available at the meeting.
- CRD Board meeting rescheduled to September 2, 2010 - Due to the local wildfires and the ongoing operation of the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre, the CRD Board meeting scheduled for Friday, August 27th in Williams Lake has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 2nd, 2010.
- Outdoor Wood Boiler Bylaw – 1st and 2nd reading have been given to the proposed Outdoor Wood-Fired Boiler Regulatory Bylaw. A public consultation meeting will be scheduled for 100 Mile House. The revised bylaw is posted on the CRD website.

Regulatory Initiatives
It is important to be informed and to provide your comments on new or revised regulatory bylaws
that are being considered by the CRD. Bylaws currently under consideration include:
|
Development Applications
The CRD routinely considers amendments to Official Community Plans, rezoning
applications, and changes in Agricultural Land Reserve status. OCP amendments and rezoning applications
provide an opportunity for public input through the public hearing process. It is important to participate
in this process to ensure that your interests are understood when decisions are being made. Details of
applications under consideration are posted in the Development section of the website.

Picture of the Week
Youngest son, Kevin and his girlfriend, Jen are visiting from Yellowknife. Shirley and I took them over to the East Kootenay for a hike up to the Bugaboo Glacier. After a day of rest, the plan is to tackle Tepee Mountain near Cranbrook. Our goal is to send them back to Yellowknife exhausted.
