Road maintenance in rural areas is the responsibility of the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The Ministry contracts maintenance in Area "L" to Interior Roads Ltd.

The Ministry sets maintenance standards that are based on factors such as the volume of traffic on the road. For example, the heaviest used roads (ie Hwy 24) are plowed more frequently than lower traffic roads such as Horse Lake Road or Green Lake Rd North.
