Candidate Info

Bruce Rattray was elected to the Electoral Area "L" Director position in 2008 and is currently seeking a second term.

Best known for his opposition to the proposed development of an island in Bridge Lake, Bruce is a founding member of the Friends of Bridge Lake and served as its first President.

A professional engineer with a master's degree in environment and management, he has worked in both the federal and Northwest Territories governments. During his twenty-three years in the NWT he held the positions of Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Transportation and Deputy Minister in the Department of Public Works and Services.

A major focus when he was elected was to make improvements to the way the Regional District carries out its business, particularly in how it informs and consults with residents. He is particularly pleased that, over the past term, the CRD has expanded its use of its website to make available the most commonly used bylaws as well as information about development applications being discussed at public hearings. The CRD has also broadened the information and consultation process for development applications. Bruce has also established his own website and regularly publishes an email newsletter to keep constituents informed about activities affecting Area "L".

As Chair of the Policy and Procedures Committee he was directly involved in developing the recently adopted Code of Conduct and Ethics for the Board of the CRD. He is also a member of the newly formed Audit Committee of the Board.
