Tips on using the Search function
General Notes
- Search results are displayed ordered by descending date, i.e. the most recent document is shown first.
- To indicate why a specific document was found, the search term is highlighted in the document.
- Only the first 10 hits are shown on the result page. If there are more than 10 hits, you can read those by selecting them from the list at the bottom of the page. Remember to press the "Submit" button!
Why do I get no (or too few) results?
- The most obvious reason could be a spelling error. Always check this one first!
- This search function uses a simple, non-case sensitive string comparison algorithm. Consider the following small
press release on solid waste:
Waste management review
100 Mile House Free Press
Sperling Hansen Associates, from North Vancouver, has been awarded a contract to review the Cariboo Regional District's (CRD) Solid Waste Management Plan and conduct public-consultation meetings. Now, a search for "solid waste" would find this article, because the search is non-case sensitive, so "solid waste" = "Solid Waste". However, if you were searching for "public consultation", this press release would NOT show up in the search results, because in the press release it is spelled "public-consultation" (with a hyphen!).
- Maybe you used an abbreviation in your search term. A search for "Doman Rd" might find none or just a few hits, while a search for "Doman Road" will probably give you the expected results. To ensure that you get all of the results, you should search for both "Doman Road" and "Doman Rd".
Why do I get so many results?
- You searched for a term that is too common. This web site is dedicated to the Cariboo Regional District Area "L", so the search term of "Interlakes" will probably return hundreds of hits. Try to be more specific!
How to limit my search to specific sections of the web site?
Consider you want to search for the press coverage of the Muddy Lake development. You can limit the search results to just those articles by explicitly specifying the press section as the one to search. You do this by prefixing the search term with "p:", so "p:muddy lake" will give you the results you are looking for.
You can limit your search to the following sections:
| Section | Prefix | Example |
| Email Newsletters | e: | e:Doman Road |
| News In Brief | i: | i:Al Richmond |
| Press News | p: | p:muddy lake |
| Development | d: | d:Watch Lake |
| Solid Waste | s: | s:consultation |
| Recreation | r: | r:aquatic center |
